Furniture maker arrested for N800,000 fraud

On Thursday, a furniture maker, Oluwaseun Malik, 24, who allegedly defrauded a man of N800,000, was brought before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Malik faces a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred by the police.
The prosecutor, DSP Victor Eruada, had told the court that Mr Malik committed the offences on Dec. 15, 2023, at No 38, Adedosu Street, Agege, Lagos.
Mr Eruada alleged that Malik obtained the money from one Wasiu Omiteru on the pretext of making home furniture for him.
The prosecutor said Mr Malik bargained with Mr Omiteru for N800,000 for the job and was paid fully but failed to do the job and converted it for his personal use.
He said the offences contravened sections 314 (1) and 286 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, T.A. Oladele, admitted Mr Malik to bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Oladele adjourned the case until January 30 for mention.
