Full List: Tyla beats Burna Boy, Rema to clinch best Afrobeats awards at MTV VMAs

Grammy award-winning musician Tyla beat Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Rema, and Ayra Starr to claim the Best Afrobeats category in the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) for her single “Push 2 Start.”
The event was held on Sunday at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, hosted by LL Cool J.
This year, Pop sensation Lady Gaga led the nods with 12 nominations and emerged as the night’s biggest winner with four trophies, including “Artist of the Year.”
Ariana Grande’s hit song ”Brighter Days Ahead” earned her the “Video of the Year” award, and Sabrina Carpenter secured three awards, with Carpenter also taking “Best Pop Artist.”
Several special honours were awarded, with Mariah Carey receiving the “Video Vanguard Award” and performing a medley of her iconic hits.
Ricky Martin accepted the inaugural “Latin Icon Award,” and rapper Busta Rhymes was honoured with the “Rock the Bells Visionary Award.”
The night was not complete without high-energy performances by Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Post Malone, Alex Warren, Sombr, and J Balvin, as well as DJ Snake.
Meanwhile, a standout tribute to Ozzy Osbourne was delivered by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Yungblud, and Nuno Bettencourt.
