The Federal Road Safety Corps has called for stronger stakeholders’ collaboration to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents across Osun, Ondo and Oyo.

The zonal commanding officer representing Osun, Oyo, and Ondo, Edward Odiete, made the call on Friday at the Third Quarter Zonal Retreat of the command in Osogbo.

Mr Odiete said the retreat provided an opportunity for the command to review its operational performance and assess its activities in line with the FRSC’s 2026 corporate strategic goals.

He said that the gathering would enable participants to identified operational gaps, share experiences and develop practical strategies to improved road safety outcomes across the zone.

According to Mr Odiete, road safety enforcement must increasingly be guided by accurate intelligence, reliable data and evidence-based decision-making.

“We must move beyond simply responding to incidents after they occur; we should  be able to anticipate road safety challenges, identify high-risk locations, understand accident patterns and  causes. Also, we should monitor traffic violations and deploy our personnel and resources strategically to areas of greatest need,” he said.

The ZCO added that operational decisions should be informed by credible intelligence, accurate statistics, field reports and lessons from previous experiences.

He noted that every accident enforcement operations, public enlightenment activities and stakeholders’ intervention should provide useful information for improving subsequent operations.

Mr Odiete further said that officers must continue to educate motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists, passengers, pedestrians and other road users on responsible and safe road-use practices.

He urged the command to ensure that its enlightenment programmes were targeted, timely, practical and responsive to identified risks.

Speaking on collaboration with security sister agencies, Odiete  stressed the need for stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders for safety of lives and property.

He listed the police, vehicle inspection officers, transport unions, government institutions, traditional institutions, local authorities, media and civil society organisations among key partners whose support was required to achieve sustainable results.

Mr Odiete said the stakeholders possessed valuable knowledge, influence, experience and resources that could complement the efforts of the FRSC.

He urged participants to approach the retreat with openness, honesty and a solution-oriented mindset.
