FRSC celebrates children, inducts 17 into road safety club

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ojota command, on Tuesday inducted 17 students from Emerald Grammar School, Lagos, into the FRSC Safety Club.
The induction took place at the FRSC Children’s Day celebration with the event’s theme: ‘Inter-School Road Safety’.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Route Commander, Toyin Oladoke, said the celebration was a means of inculcating good road culture into the children.
“We believe that when we catch them young, they will grow up to uphold those standards of good use of the road, either as pedestrians or as motorists and as educators,” she said.
Regarding the inauguration into the Road Safety Club, Ms Oladoke noted that the club is an arm of the National Youth Service Corps safety education.
She said, “These students that were inaugurated – this is to make them control traffic in their schools and teach them road safety tips and educate them over time on road safety tips. They are also urged to pass this knowledge to their siblings, neighbours and other students in their schools.’’
She urged them to be smart on the road and to avoid distracting the driver when in a vehicle.
“They should take this message to parents: the use of phones while driving is dangerous; they should imbibe good road culture,” she stated.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Special Marshal, Ojota command, Olugbenga Afolabi, reiterated that the essence of the celebration was to catch the children young, especially the school inducted into the FRSC School Club.
“When we start young like this, they will be able to grow with it, and this is what they will tell their friends and colleagues while on the road. We taught them ethics of road safety, especially when driving with their parents; they should be safety conscious. While sitting down in the car, the first thing to do is use the seatbelt; do not use your phone while driving. My advice to children is that whatever is being taught today, they should grow with it and never forget it and teach others so that they can learn from it,” he said.
The celebration, sponsored by Mouka Foam, witnessed many games, dancing and a quiz competition, of which The Apostolic Church Grammar School emerged the winner.
