FRSC advises motorists against route violation, use of unregistered number plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists against committing route violations and using vehicles with unregistered number plates.
The FRSC commander in Osun, Leye Adegboyega, gave the advice on Monday in Osogbo on the sidelines of a one-day sensitisation rally held across some motor parks.
The sensitisation campaign is part of activities commemorating the eighth Global Road Safety Week held annually.
Mr Adegboyega said recent observations in the state revealed a high proliferation of unregistered vehicles, particularly cars and motorcycles.
He said that most vehicles bear dealers’ number plates, mostly foreign numbers driven about daily by motorists, adding that such practice is against FRSC’s rules.
“Car dealers contribute greatly to this abnormality by either moving round with such unregistered vehicles affixed with dealers’ plates or selling vehicles out with dealer number plates and stickers.
“The buyers used these vehicles for indefinite lengths of time without properly registering such vehicles as required by law,” Mr Adegboyega said.
He noted that the consequence of using unregistered vehicles was revenue loss to the government.
Speaking on route violations, the sector commander warned against one-way route violations by motorcycles or vehicles, adding that it had cost the lives of many innocent souls in the state.
He warned that the command would not hesitate to deal with any traffic offenders when apprehended by the corps.
Mr Adegboyega called for the collective responsibility of transport stakeholders in the state to ensure the safety of lives and the properties of innocent civilians.
