Four people killed in Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed on Tuesday that four persons died on Monday in a crash involving two vehicles along the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway.
Odunsi Afolabi, FRSC’s spokesperson in Ogun, confirmed this in a statement.
Mr Afolabi said the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BD J482 XC and a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number RSH 969 XC.
According to him, at approximately 11:16 p.m., a Toyota Hiace bus collided with a MAN Diesel truck belonging to Julius Berger.
All four individuals involved in the crash—two male adults and two females—sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.
”The remains of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode,” he said.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that a speed violation caused the crash.
He also said the truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped, and the speeding Toyota bus subsequently rammed into it.
He added that following the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, leaving the truck behind.
Mr Afolabi said the police, Imushin Division, have taken custody of the vehicles and the case for further investigation.
The sector commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially during night travel.
Mr Fasakin also urged towing companies to ensure their towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
