Foundation earmarks N250 million to supply food to Sokoto IDPs

The Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation said it allocated N250 million for the purchase of food items to support vulnerable and internally displaced persons in the state.
The chairman of the foundation’s steering committee, Lawal Maidoki, disclosed this at a news briefing on Tuesday in Sokoto.
Mr Maidoki said that the initiative began in Rabah, Isa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas where food items and cash assistance were distributed to IDPs.
“The committee started the distribution with 200 bags of food items and N2 million in cash donations to 1,500 households at the IDP camp in Gandi Town, Rabah LGA.
“In Rabah Town, 50 bags of assorted food items and half a million naira in cash were distributed to IDPs in the community. Additionally, across eight IDP camps in Isa LGA, 1,500 families were supported, while in Sabon Birni, 1,700 families from seven IDP camps benefitted,” he said.
Mr Maidoki said that the initiative, launched by a former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, aimed to provide comprehensive support to residents of the state.
“This is through food distribution, healthcare, potable water, education, trade, and other forms of assistance under what is tagged ‘Giving Back Initiative,’” he said.
He also said that more forms of assistance would be rolled out soon across the 23 LGAs of the state.
Mr Maidoki urged the beneficiaries to pray for those who contributed to the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and committee members for their involvement in the humanitarian effort.
He further said that the foundation prioritised IDPs in the three areas due to the severity of their situation.
He said that the remaining 20 local governments would soon receive their supplies as the initiative continues to provide relief across the state.
