The Ghanaian Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) has paid a condolence visit to Thomas Frimpong, the father of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, shot dead by his alleged bullies while on his way to school in New York, United States of America.

The Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that the incident happened at the Crotona Park,  East 171st Street in the Bronx, New York on Thursday morning and when police arrived at the scene and took the victim to the hospital, he didn’t survive.

In a statement on Friday, the Ghana UN Mission said a delegation comprising Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor, Consul General Anthony El-Adas and Vice Consul-General Mawuli Klu visited Mr Frimpong to condole with him.

“Officials of Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the UN, have visited Mr Thomas Frimpong, the grieving father of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was killed in the morning of Thursday, 29th October, on his way to school in the Bronx, New York.

“The delegation was made up of Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor, Consul General Anthony El-Adas, and Vice Consul-General Mawuli Klu. Consul-General El-Adas expressed to Mr Frimpong the deep condolences, sadness, and support of Permanent Representative Ambassador Samuel Kumah and the entire Mission, the Government and all Ghanaians,” the mission said.

The mission also expressed its unwavering support for the bereaved family. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, spoke with Mr Frimpong by phone during the visit, saying President John Mahama had directed the provision of necessary assistance to the family.

“During the visit, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called in and offered Mr Frimpong words of comfort, support and solidarity, with the assurance that no Ghanaian should suffer anywhere in the world without the Ghana Government’s intervention, help, and support,” the mission noted.

In a separate statement on Friday, the Ghanaian foreign ministry condemned Javits’ killing while calling on relevant U.S. authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. The ministry also vowed to work with authorities in the pursuit of justice.

“While condemning the killing, the Government of Ghana urges the relevant authorities in the Bronx, New York, to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Permanent Mission in New York will actively pursue justice by working with US authorities. We stand ready to provide appropriate legal and consular assistance,” the ministry added.
