Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Ashley Moody as the Republican state attorney general in the U.S. Senate on Thursday.

Ms Moody will supersede Marco Rubio, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the U.S. secretary of state.

In a statement on X, Mr DeSantis lauded Ms Moody’s commitment to work and mentioned his confidence in her to “deliver on Mr Trump’s agenda.”

“I look forward to seeing Senator Moody fight the good fight against the entrenched interests in Washington, and I know she will be a critical part of bringing President Trump’s America First agenda to fruition,” he said.

Ms Moody resigned from the judicial circuit court bench in 2017 to run for Florida attorney general in  the election, she got the position and was reinstated in 2022.

She was also involved in opposing an abortion rights amendment in Florida and supporting lawsuits challenging the 2020 election results.
