Flood: Sokoto governor to spend N1.1 billion on boats, life jackets

The Sokoto government has approved N1.1 billion to procure motorised boats and life jackets to enhance safety in 22 flood-prone LGAs.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Dade-Adare, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmed Aliyu in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Mr Dade-Adare explained that the equipment would be distributed to the LGAs affected by the recent floods, excluding Dange-Shuni, which was not impacted.
“If you recall, a committee was set up to address the flooding issues in the state. The committee submitted its report, which indicated that 22 out of the 23 LGAs in Sokoto State have been affected by flood. As a result, the state government found it necessary to procure motorised boats and life jackets for these areas,” he said.
He said, in addition, the state government approved N565.2 million for the purchase of 12,376 bags of 25kg rice, which would be distributed to the poor and vulnerable persons across the state.
“The council also approved N149.8 million for the completion of a terminal block at the popular Alu Garage in Sokoto,” he said.
