Flood: Lagos government arrests five for extorting pedestrians

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has confirmed the arrest of five men whose gang specialised in extorting innocent pedestrians in different parts of the state.
The public relations officer of the agency, Ajayi Lukman, in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday, confirmed the arrest.
Mr Lukman said that the suspects were involved in extorting crossing pedestrians at the International Trade Fair Bus Stop on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
According to the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps X handle and a viral video, they were arrested for demanding N100 from each person following heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
“We got wind of the negative acts of the suspects hindering pedestrian activity at the popular Trade Fair Bus Stop, via a viral video circulating on social media.
“The five suspects involved were arrested on Wednesday and they will be charged to court soon,” he said.
Mr Lukman cautioned Lagos residents against crossing the expressways, urging them to make use of strategically erected bridges in different parts of the state.
He said the agency’s personnel were stationed at different operational beats in the state daily to apprehend defaulters for prosecution.
In another development, three suspects were arrested at Queens Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, for allegedly accessing a building under government seal for criminal purposes.
Mr Lukman said the suspects would also be charged to court soon.
