Fire razes 19 shops, mosque in Kano market

At least 19 shops and one mosque were razed at the Kasuwar Rimi Market in Kano on Wednesday.
The State Fire Service confirmed the incident through a statement issued by its public relations officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.
Mr Abdullahi said the service received a distress call at about 01:46 a.m. on Wednesday from Ahmad Tijjani that there was a fire outbreak in the market.
”On receiving the information, we quickly sent some of our personnel and a fire fighting vehicle to the scene of the incident at about 01:55 a.m. to quench the fire so as not to affect other shops,” he said.
The fire service spokesman said the inferno completely razed 14 permanent shops, five temporary ones and one mosque.
However, Mr Abdullahi said that no life was lost and no one was injured in the incident.
He further stated that the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
