Fire guts warehouse in Idumagbo market, properties destroyed

A three-storey building at Idumagbo market in Lagos was gutted by fire, destroying properties stored inside the warehouse on the third floor.
The fire broke out on Monday at about 12 noon on the third floor of the building located at 34, Idumagbo Avenue, Obun Eko, Lagos Island area of the state.
The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the fire incident in a statement issued on Monday.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties or injury was recorded.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently putting out a Fire incident at 34, Idumagbo Avenue, Obun Eko, Lagos,” the statement said.
It added that “The Fire which was alerted at 12:31 hours Monday saw Ebute Elefun and Oniru Fire Stations mobilized to stop the raging… Fire at a three storey-penthouse building.
“The Fire which happened at a warehouse on the 3rd floor of the building stocks towels, bed spread, tape rules among others with a commercial bank on the ground floor.
“The Lagos Firefighters being complemented with sister agencies have been able to subdued the Fire to the 3rd floor and the penthouse it had spread to while saving the bank and other floors as well as adjoining structures.
“There has been no reported case of injury nor death as investigation into the cause will ensue immediately ongoing damping down is completed,” the statement said.
