Fire guts four buildings at Idumota’s Nnamdi Azikiwe-Docemo intersection

A fire outbreak at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in Idumota, Lagos, on Wednesday razed four buildings, with one collapsing due to the high intensity of the flames.
The director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this in a statement on X.
“The affected properties are identified as house numbers 47, 49, and 51. Tragically, house number 49 has collapsed due to the fire’s intensity and the close proximity of buildings. Additionally, the fire has spread to house number 53,” said the statement.
The agency appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperative as emergency personnel are making firefighting efforts “to contain the spread of the fire and protect surrounding properties in spite of combustible materials involved including firecrackers which are triggering at intervals.”
In an earlier update, the agency revealed that it was alerted about the inferno at 7:41 a.m. and emergency services were swiftly mobilised. It was discovered that the fire had engulfed three buildings, including two- and three-storey structures.
The statement said, “The fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa have deployed resources to mitigate the situation effectively as firefighting operations are ongoing.”
According to the agency, the cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, but an investigation is ongoing.
