FG seeks $2 billion for fibre optic project

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, says that the ministry is working to secure $2 billion in funding for fibre optics in Nigeria.
Mr Tijani said this on Friday in Abuja. He said a fibre optic network was being laid across the country.
“When we talk about investing in fibre optics, most people cannot relate to it. The value of it is that we can invest in the infrastructure that will bring internet to people, regardless of where they find it,” Mr Tijani said.
He said the government was laying the fibre optic network to cover the entire country and ensure nobody is left behind.
He said in 2025, the ministry would get private companies to invest in the other half so that more rural areas would experience better and more meaningful connectivity.
The minister described 2024 as an extremely exciting year.
He appreciated partners and organisations that have worked with the ministry and funded many initiatives for the ministry.
