The federal government has restated commitment to improved healthcare service delivery in the country.

Jimoh Salaudeen, director, Hospital Services, federal ministry of health, stated this on Friday during a facility tour of the General Hospital, Kumo, in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Salaudeen was in the state to assess facilities at the hospital sequel to its upgrade to a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

He reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reinvigorate the health sector through massive investment and improved infrastructure for quality healthcare services.

The director said the conversion of the facility into a medical centre would prompt more investment towards its upgrade to serve people in the North-East.

According to Mr Salaudeen, the visit is in line with Mr Tinubu’s directives for the ministry to assess the facility, to ensure its quick operation to serve the people of the state and the region.

“What we saw here is really impressive, the buildings and all infrastructure are brand new, well planned, properly ventilated and solar backed up.

“The facility is functioning not just an ordinary show, with brand new equipment in the theatre, radiology and the offices, amongst others; It is marvelous,” he said.

Mr Salaudeen commended the state government for the level of preparedness, which was crucial for the smooth take off of the centre.

“I can tell you, with what I saw here, soonest, the services here will commence and I am foreseeing in future that the way we are starting, the sky is the limit.

“This may be a regional medical centre for the northeastern part of Nigeria,” he said.

The state deputy governor, Manassah Jatau, lauded Mr Tinubu for approving the conversion of the facility into a medical centre.

Mr Jatau expressed optimism that the state would witness improved health indices and better service delivery for all residents and others outside the state.

Emir of Akko, Umar Atiku, also commended the gesture, adding that the facility would improve the socio-economic outlook of the community and the state at large.

Mr Atiku pledged that the people in the area would own the facility by creating a conducive environment to fast track its effective operation.
