The Ministry of Youth Development has reiterated its commitment to repositioning Nigerian youths to enable them to play significant roles in the country’s socioeconomic development.

The ministry’s permanent secretary, Donuma Ahmed, said this when Yunus Sonmez, the director-general of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Thursday.

Mr Ahmed said the ministry welcomes ideas and programmes that empower youth and allow them to network with their counterparts worldwide.

He added that the federal government is ready to collaborate with ICYF on youth empowerment, which aims to make the younger generation productive and self-reliant.

Earlier, Sonmez said ICYF, with headquarters in Turkey, deals with economic, social and cultural growth issues.

He added that the organisation has a youth empowerment programme and encourages ministers of youth from Sub-Saharan Africa to apply for the programme.

He explained that “the main aim of visiting Nigeria is because of our iftar (Ramadan breakfast) programme, which we want to hold here and to develop relationships with relevant authorities.
