The federal government has directed civil servants to close work early on Tuesday in a move that is aimed at “mobilizing support” for the Super Eagles in their World Cup qualifying playoff second leg match against Ghana.

The Super Eagles face off against the Black Stars at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja after ending the first leg 0-0 in Kumasi on Friday.

In a circular sent to all Permanent Secretaries and signed by the Head of Service, civil servants are to vacate all offices by 1:00 p.m.

“As you are aware, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be meeting the Black Stars of Ghana in continuation of the 2022 FIFA World-Cup Qualifier. Playoff, (Return Leg),” the memo reads in part.

“There is a need to mobilise support for the Nigerian Team. Consequently, I am directed to inform you that all offices will be closed at 1.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 29th March, 2022.”

The Super Eagles aim to qualify for a fourth World Cup in a row and are working to pick one of Africa’s five tickets to the game ahead of Ghana in one of Africa’s most storied fixtures.
