The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council, has described the death of a former National Secretary of the union, Jola Ogunlusi, as a blow to journalism.

The state Chairman, Adeleye Ajayi, stated this position during an interview on Saturday in Lagos.

Mr Ogunlusi died on Saturday after a brief illness. He was 91.

Mr Ajayi said, “He was a veteran journalist, a versatile journalist. He was a national secretary par excellence of the NUJ. He was one of the pioneers of journalism in Nigeria, and we can never forget his landmarks. Last year, he celebrated his 90th year; he was full of life. We did not know he would pass on so soon. It is sad that he had to leave us at this time that we need his advice. We still need his guidance.”

The NUJ chairman said that the council would take solace in the fact that Mr Ogunlusi made a strong mark in journalism and the NUJ.

He stated, “May the soul of Pa Jola Ogunlusi rest in peace. He was a jolly good fellow.”
