Ex-cop, Derek Chauvin, convicted for murder of Black man, George Floyd, stabbed in prison

Ex-US cop, Derek Chauvin, convicted for the murder of African-American, George Floyd, in Minnesota, on May 25, 2020, has been stabbed in the federal penitentiary where he is currently being held.
According to The New York Times, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that an inmate was stabbed at the Tucson prison around 12:30 pm without naming the identity of the individual. But two people familiar with the incident identified the inmate as Mr Chauvin.
The 47-year-old was treated by emergency medical technicians and was subsequently transported to the hospital “for further treatment and evaluation” – an individual with knowledge of the incident said Mr Chauvin survived the attack, The Times reported.
Details of the incident had yet to be released but one person familiar with the event said no other inmates or prison officials were injured, and the situation was quickly contained.
Mr Chauvin, a white man, is currently serving more than 20 years sentence for Mr Floyd’s murder. He pressed his knee on his neck for almost eight minutes while being handcuffed as the victim muttered, “I can’t breathe.’’
Mr Floyd’s death sparked protests around the world, igniting the ‘Black Lives Matter,’ movement against racism and police brutality. Consequently, Mr Chauvin was found guilty of murder at state level and a federal charge of violating the constitutional rights of the late Floyd.
