EU to require eight-dollar travel pass for U.S. citizens from 2024

The European Union has reviewed travel visa options for U.S. nationals starting in 2024.
In a report published by the Irish Star on Tuesday, the EU said once implemented next year, its new ‘European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)’ would require visitors from visa-exempt, non-EU countries such as the U.S., UK, Australia, and more.
According to the report, visitors from those countries will be required to apply for the pass ahead of vacations and other short-term stays.
It noted that while the applications are not open, information has been released on the application process. Here’s what you can expect when applying for the ETIAS.
It said the ETIAS comes with an application fee of around $7.79.
Parts of its requirements for application include personal information such as name, date of birth, birthplace, sex, nationality, home address, email and phone number of applicants, and first name of applicant’s parents.
Also required are travel document details, level of education and current occupation, country and destination, including first intended stay if travelling to multiple countries needing ETIAS (this can change afterwards.
Part of the conditions are details about past criminal convictions, travels to war or conflict zones, and whether one has recently been the subject of a return decision.
Applicants with a relative who is a citizen of a European country requiring ETIAS (or who is a third-country national with the right to move freely throughout the EU in accordance with EU law) “must provide the personal information of said relative as well as details of their familial ties to said relative.”
