Newcastle United continued with their unbeaten run in the league following an emphatic 3-0 victory over Leicester City in their Boxing Day fixture to second on the Premier League table.

The Magpies haven’t lost any game in the league since the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in August, with the victory against Leicester meant they’ve recorded a defeat in their past 11 league games.

In today’s game, Newcastle took the lead barely three minutes into the encounter thanks to Chris Wood netting from a spotkick before Miguel Almirón doubled the lead four minutes later from an impressive one-two play.

Brazilian Joelinton put Newcastle three-nil up just a few minutes over the half hour mark with a powerful header from Kieran Trippier to the well-deserved halftime advantage.

Super Eagles players, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were both introduced by manager Brendan Rodgers in the 72nd minute of the game, with the former securing Leicester City’s first attempt on goal in the second half within five minutes of his introduction.

Subsequently, Ndidi made the hosts first shot on target of the second half when the midfielder fired a volley into Nick Pope’s position but the England goalkeeper dealt well with the threat.

The second half ended with no goal but the three first half goals were enough for Newcastle to clinch the maximum three points at the Kings Power Stadium to provisional jump to second on the table.

Newcastle United have now won all of their last five matches in the league, as Eddie Howe and his team continue to push for European football next season.
