The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has urged Nigerians to renew their commitment towards protecting the environment for present and future generations.

Mr Lawal stated this in a message to mark the 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday in Abuja.

He underscored environmental protection and expressed optimism that Nigerians would continue to work toward shared prosperity, support environmental sustainability and preserve the natural resources.

According to him, a healthy environment is fundamental to national prosperity, food security, public health and climate resilience, requiring collective efforts to protect the country’s natural resources.

He urged Nigerians to combat desertification, pollution, flooding and deforestation and promote sustainable environmental practices capable of creating a greener and cleaner Nigeria.

The minister highlighted that protecting the environment was essential to ensure sustainable development and safeguard natural resources.

Mr Lawal called for collective action and responsible environmental practices, stressing that such efforts would contribute to national prosperity and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to address climate-related challenges.
