Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state has described the local government polls as the most peaceful in recent times.

Mr Mba made this statement on Saturday shortly after he cast his vote at Polling Unit 007, Mbaguzo Ashishi Owo, in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

The accreditation and voting process commenced at approximately 12:00 p.m., with residents enthusiastically exercising their right to vote for candidates of their choice.

Mr Mbah, who patiently queued to cast his vote, expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the winners, regardless of party affiliation.

“This exercise is democracy in action,” he stated.

John Ogbu-Okeke, president general of Owo Town Union, commended the community for turning out en masse, expressing optimism that their chosen candidates would emulate the governor’s developmental strides.

Paul Nnajiofor, special advisor to the governor on legislative matters, attributed the peaceful election process to the governor’s effective leadership.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) had scheduled the election for 17 chairmanships and 260 ward councillorship positions.

With 17 participating political parties and over two million eligible voters, the election covered 4,145 polling units.

A total of 12,800 ad hoc electoral staff, hundreds of electoral staff, and 17 electoral officers were deployed, along with 4,145 security personnel.
