Emir begs Governor Badaru to intensify support for flood victims

The Emir of Hadjia, Adamu Abubakar, has called on the state government for more support for Jigawa flood victims.
The emir made the appeal on Tuesday in Dutse when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Mr Tinubu was in Jigawa to commiserate with Governor Muhammad Badaru and victims of the recent floods that wreaked havoc in many parts of the state. The APC presidential standard-bearer had donated N50 million to the flood victims.
“Your magnanimous gesture will in sha Allah reach the victims. But we want you to search for more big men in this our country Nigeria to come and support these victims,” said the emir. “This is imperative because there is a problem, as these victims are in critical condition as a result of floods.”
Mr Abubakar expressed hope that the governor would put more effort into bringing relief to the victims. He promised to consult other emirate councils in Jigawa on how the money donated will be used.
Fifty people were confirmed dead, and hundreds of residents were displaced by the flood.
The executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Sani Yusuf, said the flood destroyed thousands of homes in Jigawa on Saturday, forcing residents to take refuge in government buildings and 11 temporary camps.
