Elon Musk to meet Israeli president, Gaza hostage families

Israeli President Isaac Herzog will be meeting with Elon Musk on Monday to discuss ways to combat rising antisemitism online.
According to AFP, news of the meeting was made public by the president’s office on Sunday, which also stated that hostage families from Gaza would be joining the meeting.
Mr Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, has come under heavy criticism from critics who say hate speech has skyrocketed on the platform since he took over.
The White House has also accused him of brazen promotion of antisemitism after he endorsed a conspiracy theory accusing Jews of trying to weaken white majorities.
The president’s office said the proposed meeting would be joined by representatives of families of hostages held by Hamas, who will speak about the horrors of the Hamas terror attack on October 7 and of the ongoing pain and uncertainty for those held captive.
“In their meeting, the president will emphasise the need to act to combat rising antisemitism online,” the president’s office said.
In September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Mr Musk to combat antisemitism on X, calling on him to find “the ability to stop not only antisemitism, or rolling it back as best you can, but any collective hatred.”
In response, Mr Musk, the world’s richest man, argued that his platform would be unable to stop every hate speech before it is published. He reiterated that he is largely against attacking any group, no matter what it is.
The X platform has come under fire from many organisations, which accuse it of being rife with hate speech and antisemitism.
The platform, in response, has fought back critics and even sued some of them for defamation.
X Corp is currently suing nonprofit Media Matters on grounds it has driven away advertisers by portraying the site as rife with anti-Semitic content.
Mr Musk has also threatened to file a suit against the Anti-defamation League over its claims that hate speech and vile tweets have increased on the X platform since after his $44 billion takeover.
