EFCC returns N84 million to businessman duped in Edo land deal

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it handed over a draft of N84 million recovered from one Anita Eborome to a businessman, Ekhahon Abraham.
The EFCC, in a statement on Friday, said Mrs Eborome failed to refund the sum to Mr Abraham, who bought a land from her in Edo State, and erected a perimeter fence, which the rightful owner later pulled down.
The EFCC said, “The Benin Zonal Directorate, EFCC on Friday September 25, 2026 handed over a draft of N84 million to Ekhahon Abraham, being the sum recovered by operatives of the Commission from one Anita Eborome. Abraham was defrauded of the said sum by Eboreme under the pretence of selling an expanse of land measuring 115ft by 135ft to him in one community in Edo State.
It stated, “Abraham said after making payment, he erected a parameter fence on the land but it was pulled down by a man who claimed to be the rightful owner. Based on that incident, he sought for a refund of his money but met a brick wall as Eborome came evasive hence he was advised to petition the commission.
“During investigation, it was discovered that Abraham transferred the money to Eborome but she diverted the money for her personal use.”
The acting EFCC zonal director, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, presenting the draft, noted that the commission would continue to professionally discharging it’s duties and deny fraudsters any opportunity to reap where they did not sow.
