EFCC questions Kayode Fayemi over N4 billion loot

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, is currently being quizzed by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to sources, the ex-governor arrived at the Ilorin Zonal Command of the commission at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Mr Fayemi is being quizzed by a team of investigators on the allegations that he misappropriated funds during his tenure to the tune of about N4 billion.
Peoples Gazete had reported last month that the anti-graft authority had invited Mr Fayemi in a letter dated May 12, to appear before the head of its zonal command office in Kwara, Nigeria’s North Central, for clarification on money laundering activities.
In the letter issued by its zone commander Micheal Nzekwe, the EFCC requested that Mr Fayemi appeared on Thursday, May 18. However, Mr Fayemi, through his lawyers, requested that the invitation be adjourned to May 30, 2023.
The ex-governor also said that he had committed himself to other programmes between May 19, and May 24, before he received their invitation.
Mr Fayemi had served as governor from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that time, he had served in office between 2010 and 2014 until losing re-election to Ayodele Fayose.
