Edo revenue service seeks police partnership over tax law enforcement

The executive chairman, Edo Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Oladele Bankole-Balogun, has solicited the collaboration of the police in enforcing the state’s tax laws.
Mr Bankole-Balogun made the appeal on Tuesday in Benin when he paid a courtesy visit to the Edo Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin.
He disclosed that the service had hit its target of N10 billion in the internally generated revenue for January, adding that police collaboration was still crucial to ensuring strict compliance in the tax drive.
“The role of law enforcement in tax compliance cannot be over-emphasised. A well-structured partnership with the police will strengthen our enforcement mechanisms and enhance revenue collection,” he said.
Responding, Ms Otimenyin appreciated the revenue service’s role in the state’s development.
She assured that the command would support and partner with the EIR’s leadership for sustainable IGR collection.
“The Edo Police Command is committed to supporting lawful revenue collection.
“Effective collaboration between security agencies and tax authorities will ensure a seamless enforcement process,” she said.
In the same vein, the EIRS boss also led the board’s leadership to the office of the director, State Security Service (SSS), where he sought collaboration and support for the revenue service’s operations and activities.
