Edo police kill 5 suspected kidnappers in gun battle

Five suspected kidnappers were killed in a shootout with the police on Saturday in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo.
The daredevil assailants were on a mission to abduct an expatriate in Okomu Oil Palm Plantation, police spokesman in the state, Bello Kotongs, said.
Mr Kotongs said the police deployed to the location after receiving information that notorious kidnappers had perfected plans to abduct an expatriate at the plantation
He said the kidnappers opened fire on the police team on getting to the location, forcing the Force to return the fire.
“In the ensuing gun battle, the operatives neutralised five of the suspected kidnappers while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” the spokesman said.
Mr Kontongs further added that operations to fish out the other escaped kidnappers are still under progress in the area.
According to him, the items recovered after the standoff includes an Ak 47, one single barrel cut to size gun, one long barrel gun and eight live cartridges.
