Driver jailed nine months for stealing

A magistrate’s court in Jos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 26-year-old driver, Jacob Davou, to nine months in prison for stealing.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge.
Ms Bokkos, in her judgment, gave the convict the option of a fine of N30,000 or three months in prison.
She also ordered the convict to pay the complainant a compensation of N38,500 or face an additional six months in prison in default.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, informed the court that the case was reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station on May 2 by the complainant, Dyek Gyang.
Mr Gokwat said the convict used a master key to open the parked Hijet pickup belonging to the complainant and stole one power bank, one phone charger, and one MP3 player, also destroying the vehicle’s lock, all valued at N38,500.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
