Driver crushes motor boy sleeping under moving truck

The driver of a fully loaded containerised truck has been arrested after he unknowingly killed a motor boy sleeping under the vehicle.
Disclosing this in a statement on its official X handle, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the accident happened on Sunday, at MTN inward Sunrise, along Oshodi – Apapa Expressway.
According to the statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the truck driver attempted running away after the motor boy was confirmed dead at the hospital, but he was caught by agency officials and has been handed over to the police.
The statement read, “Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today apprehended a driver of a fully loaded containerised truck after crushing a motor boy to death by MTN inward Sunrise along Oshodi – Apapa Expressway.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the fully loaded containerised truck (T_1360LA) unknowingly crushed a motor boy sleeping under his truck while the driver was trying to move along with other loaded trucks going inward Tin Can Port Gate, Apapa.
“Immediately the incident happened and the motor boy was confirmed dead after rushing him to a nearby hospital, the truck driver took to his heels but was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials led by Traffic Officer Adams Lateef ‘Zebra’ (Zone 13) Apapa.
“The truck driver was later handed over by LASTMA officials to policemen from the Trinity Police Division area of Apapa for further investigation,” the statement added.
Sympathising with the family of the deceased, the LASTMA General Manager, Mr Bakare Oki, advised “drivers to ensure they always check round their trucks to ascertain nothing was found under before embarking on any movement.”
