Driver arraigned for allegedly assaulting passenger in Kaduna

A 44-year commercial driver, Salisu Adamu, was on Wednesday, arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a passenger.
Mr Adamu, whose address was not given, is being charged with assault.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at NDA Junction, Kaduna.
He said that Mr Adamu gave the complainant, Haruna Gambo, several fist-blows that caused him severe injuries on his face following a disagreement over N200.
He said that Mr Gambo was rescued by onlookers before the defendant was arrested by a policeman on duty at the bus stop.
Mr Leo said that the offence contravened Section 224 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Section 224 of the code prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until July 16 for hearing.
