Donald Trump’s defence secretary pick Pete Hegseth admits paying $50,000 to bury rape allegation

Pete Hegseth, President Donald Trump’s nominee for Defence Secretary paid $50,000 in legal settlement to an unnamed woman who accused him of raping her in 2017, top Democrat senator Elizabeth Warren disclosed.
“Mr. Hegseth, how much did you pay ‘Jane Doe’ as part of any non-disclosure agreement or other agreement related to this incident?” the document says. The answer: “$50,000,” Ms Warren posted on X alongside a document showing her question to Mr Hegseth.
Mr Hegseth has been under intense scrutiny from both Republican and Democrat lawmakers over series of allegations, including rape, sexual assault, alcohol abuse and physical assault, as part of his senate hearing for Defence Secretary position considering.
The Senate on Thursday voted 51-49 to advance Mr Hegseth’s nomination to a final vote with two Republican senators, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joining the Democrats to vote against him.
Deliberations have recommenced on the floor of the Congress again on Friday ahead of an expected final vote on Mr Pete Hegseth’s nomination later today.
