Djokovic to skip Serbia’s Davis Cup group stage matches

Serbia will be without top star Novak Djokovic in their group phase of the 2022 Davis Cup to be played in Valencia, captain Viktor Troicki said on Monday.
Troicki said the 21-time grand slam champion had been excused for personal reasons from the September 13 to 18 fixtures with hosts Spain, South Korea and Canada.
But he said he was confident Serbia would still qualify for November’s finals in Malaga, and Djokovic would then be available.
The 35-year-old Djokovic is currently sitting out the U.S. Open as he cannot travel to New York without a coronavirus vaccination.
According to his homepage, he is next scheduled to play in the September 23 to 25 Laver Cup in London.
