Oprah Winfrey, an American talk show host, on Monday denied receiving $1 million to support Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election.

Ms Oprah’s response came after a report in the Washington Examiner claimed that Ms Harris’ campaign had paid her production company, Harpo Productions, $1 million for hosting a town hall event in September.

In a bid to set the record straight, when questioned by a TMZ reporter, Ms Oprah firmly stated, “Not true. I was paid nothing, ever.”

Ms Oprah emphasised that she did not accept any compensation for her involvement, reaffirming her long-standing support for Democratic candidates without financial motivation, as she has been a long-time supporter of the Democratic Party.

She had also campaigned for President Joe Biden and ex-President Barack Obama.

However, a Federal Election Commission document revealed that Ms Oprah’s production company, Harpo Productions, was paid $1 million in two tranches of $500,000 each.

The document showed that Harpo Productions received two payments of $500,000 on October 15, 2024, with the description ‘event production’.

Ms Oprah also refused to discuss the election, which saw Donald Trump emerge as the U.S. president-elect.

When asked how the election went, she said, “I’m not talking about the election.”
