Dennis Guwor emerges as speaker of eighth Delta Assembly

Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South West) has emerged as the eighth Delta State House of Assembly speaker.
Mr Guwor, 44, was elected as the speaker shortly after the inauguration of the assembly by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday in Asaba, the state capital.
He was nominated by Ferguson Onwo (PDP-Isoko South II) and was seconded by Marilyn Okowa-Daramola (PDP-Ika North East).
Also, Arthur Akpowhowho (PDP-Ethiope East) emerged as the assembly’s deputy speaker.
The acting house clerk, Otos Aghoghopia, thereafter presided over the election and swearing-in of the speaker and deputy speaker.
The oath of office was administered to the elected presiding officers by the acting clerk of the house in line with the Nigerian constitution.
In his acceptance speech, the speaker said the tasks ahead were enormous and promised to pilot the house affairs with every sense of responsibility.
He called for maximum support from members and all other relevant stakeholders.
