Delta: Police officers to face orderly room trial for assaulting civilians

The police commissioner in Delta, Samuel Erale, has ordered an orderly room trial of some officers captured on camera for assaulting two men near Pinnacle Hotel Junction, Okpanam Road, Asaba.
A video showed the officers forcing the men into a private vehicle for a yet-to-be-ascertained offence, as bystanders intervened and questioned the reason for the arrest.
Describing the officers’ actions as unprofessional, the spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Monday that the officers have appeared before the police commissioner and their team leader was queried.
“The policemen in this video acted unprofessionally. The leadership of the force has stated repeatedly that incivility to members of the public will not be condoned.
“To this end, the officers have been identified and appeared before the CP today. The CP has ordered their orderly room trial with immediate effect, while their team leader, who is an SPO queried,” said the statement.
