Delta commissioner tasks journalists on objective reportage

Delta commissioner for information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, has advised journalists to always verify and balance their stories before publishing.
Mr Osuoza gave the advice when he received the executives and members of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office on Wednesday in Asaba.
He said that the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori administration had achieved a lot in the area of developmental projects, policies and programmes, adding that the government would partner the media to showcase the success stories.
He assured the journalists that his doors were open to crosscheck any information about the government programmes.
“This administration is committed to implementing policies and programmes as contained in the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda,” Mr Osuaza said.
According to him, his ministry is ready to ensure that the state government’s activities are adequately reported, adding that journalists are instrumental to achieving the set goals.
He said that partnering the media, especially the Chapel would help to disseminate correct information to the public on the activities of the administration.
The commissioner. however, urged the media practitioners to adhere to ethical journalism and pledge to liaise with ministries, departments and agencies for effective media coverage.
Earlier, the chairman, Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel, Ifeanyi Olannye, commiserated with the commissioner over the demise of his father.
He also lauded Mr Oborevwori for appointing Mr Osuoza as commissioner for information, whom he described as hardworking and experienced on the job.
“With the relevant training, journalists will be equipped with the requisite knowledge to interpret and adequately report the state government’s agenda,’’ he said.
