Delta 2022: Katsina’s 16 medals best in decade, official says

With three gold, four silver and nine bronze medals, the Katsina government says it recorded huge success at the just concluded 21st National Sports Festival in Delta.
Nasir Gide, the spokesman for the Katsina sports council, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. He said the Katsina contingent recorded the best outing in the sports festival’s history.
Mr Gide added that the state recorded success mostly in combat sports, especially traditional boxing (dambe), judo, taekwondo, boxing and wrestling, among other sporting events in the competition. It also did well in golf.
The Director of sports, Umar Aliyu-Saulawa, expressed gratitude to the athletes. Mr Aliyu-Saulawa, who described the success as historic, noted that Katsina had not won a gold medal at the NSF since 2011, attributing the success to the support and cooperation of Governor Aminu Masari and sports commissioner, Bishir Gambo-Saulawa.
According to Mr Gide, the director revealed the need for the Katsina government to place some of the athletes on monthly allowances for the state to continue excelling in all aspects of sports.
