Deborah Samuel: Jamil Abubakar’s Islamist views could radicalise our son, ex-wife tells court

Irene Nwachukwu, who has a child with Aliko Dangote’s son-in-law Jamil Abubakar, has filed for sole custody of their son over Mr Abubakar’s extremist Islamic views. This is in light of the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel.
Ms Nwachukwu posted the documents of child custody request on her Twitter page. Mr Dangote’s son-in-law’s baby mama said she was concerned about leaving her child in the care of Mr Abubakar.
“Following your client’s Mr Jamil MD Abubakar recent tweeting the media dated 12th May 2022 (attached to this letter) I have come to the decision that my child will not be going anywhere near him, now or in the future, as I do not want my child to be raised by or be in the custody of someone with such extreme religious views,” said the baby mama in the documents.
Ms Nwachukwu added that she would not be seeking child support or needing his assistance with parenting such as attending school events or meetings, as well as deciding living arrangements.
Mr Abubakar, the son of former inspector general of police Mohammed Abubakar, had justified the murder of Ms Samuel by Muslims fanatics by quoting verses from religious books on his Twitter account.
“In Islam we respect the Injil, Taura, Zabur, we were never taught to disresepct any of the book, or any of the prophets from Adam to Muhammad SAW & the Quran,” Mr Abubakar had tweeted. “The punishment for Blasphemy is DEATH! in most religions including Christianity. Respect people’s religion, it’s simple!”
His actions drew the attention of the Concerned Nigerians group, who then called on the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union to place visa restrictions on Mr Abubakar.
“It is in the light of the foregoing that we call for an immediate visa ban restriction on Captain Jamil Abubakar and Mr. Aliyu Tilde, the commissioner for education in Bauchi state, for promoting extremist religious views in Nigeria and making inflammatory statements capable of setting the nation on the path of religious war,” the group said.
Mr Abubakar did not return our requests for comment about his ex-wife’s claims throughout Monday.
