She said that her father led a fulfilled and impactful life, contributing immensely to Nigerian football and the global sporting community.

Mrs Jegede described the former technical director of the Super Eagles as “a devoted father, loving, caring, great adviser and disciplinarian.”

She said her father died at about 7:30p.m on Monday while preparations were ongoing to admit him at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.

Mrs Jegede said that details of the burial arrangements would be announced by the family in due course.

Similarly, the deceased’s cousin, Mathew Onigbinde, described his death as a great loss to the family, stating that the vacuum left by the Super Eagles coach could “only be filled by God.”

He described the late coach as a nice, accommodating and generous man.

A condolence register has been opened at the deceased’s residence.

In his reaction, the Palace Secretary to the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, Moshood Oni, said that the palace was waiting for official notification from the Onigbinde’s family.
