Customs unveils agenda for service transformation

Sylvester Nwakuche, the acting controller general of the Nigeria Correctional Service, has unveiled his agenda to transform the agency into a model of excellence, prioritising security, reformation, and the reintegration of offenders.
In his maiden address to heads of directorates on Monday in Abuja, Mr Nwakuche emphasised the need for teamwork, transparency, and innovation in tackling the agency’s challenges.
In a statement, the agency’s spokesman, Abubakar Umar, said the meeting with the directorate heads marked the beginning of a new era in the NCoS, with a focus on transformation, innovation, and excellence.
Mr Nwakuche said the development sets the stage for significant strides in the NCoS’s mission to ensure public safety and effective offender management.
He said this was necessary as the NCoS continued to evolve and adapt to emerging challenges in the correctional sector.
Mr Nwakuche pledged to build on existing reforms while introducing fresh strategies to improve inmate rehabilitation, address overcrowding, and enhance correctional officers’ welfare.
The NCoS boss added that his vision was to create a secure and humane correctional system prioritising the safety and well-being of inmates and officers.
He said this would also ensure that offenders were rehabilitated and reintegrated into society.
Mr Nwakuche called on all officers to remain committed to their duties, assuring them of his support in fostering a world-class correctional system.
“I am committed to supporting you in your duties, and I expect the same level of commitment from each and every one of you,” he said.
