The Adamawa command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth N22.9 million along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

ACG Husseini Ejibunu, in charge of Operation Whirlwind, disclosed this during a press conference in Yola on Friday.

He said the seized exhibits were intercepted at Maiha, Mubi, Gurin, and Belel flashpoints in the state.

“This operation was intelligence-driven and executed with precision, reflecting the unwavering commitment of the NCS to safeguarding our nation’s resources and ensuring compliance with the law,” he said.

Mr Ejibunu noted that petrol smuggling remained a significant challenge, fuelled by economic disparities and the lure of quick profits.

He reaffirmed that under the leadership of the comptroller-general of customs, Bashir Adeniyi, the service remained resolute in dismantling smuggling networks and bringing economic saboteurs to justice.

“I want to reiterate our commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the benefits of government policies reach every Nigerian.

“The NCS will continue to adapt and innovate in its fight against smuggling, leveraging technology, intelligence, and collaboration to stay ahead of criminal elements,” Mr Ejibunu added.

Also, Quin Dauda, representing the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), reaffirmed the authority’s partnership with the NCS in tackling fuel smuggling.

She urged marketers to abide by regulations, saying, ”PMS is meant for local consumption and should not be smuggled out of the country.”
