Court remands two for allegedly stealing motorcycle in Makurdi

The magistrate adjourned the case till October 18 for further mention.

A Makurdi Magistrate’s Court, on Tuesday, remanded two persons: Terfa Moji and Jiminbee Chenge, over alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and act of terrorism.

The Magistrate, Sonia Ayange, who did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction, ordered their remand in thw Makurdi Correctional Centre, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

She adjourned the case till October 18 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector James Ewache, told the court that the defendants were arrested by men of Operation Zenda JTF Makurdi, led by ASP Imoban Dese, on September 30.

Mr Ewache said that the team responded to a distress call by residents of Adeke, Makurdi, that notorious members of a robbery syndicate snatched a motorcycle from a commercial motorcyclist at gunpoint.

He said, “The team swiftly mobilised, trailed and arrested the defendants, who are also members of the gang, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from the.’’

He said that the offence contravened Sections 6(b) and 1(1) (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, 2004.

According to him, the offence also contravenes Section 4(2) of Abduction, Hostage Taking, kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue state.

The prosecutor, who told the court that investigation into the matter was ongoing, sought the court’s permission for adjournment to gather witnesses and evidence ahead of trial.
