Court remands scavenger for stealing inside Redeemed Church

Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja has ordered a 20-year-old scavenger, Ali Ibrahim, to be remanded in prison custody for stealing church property.
The police charged Mr Ibrahim with criminal trespass and theft.
Mr Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The judge, Sulyman Ola, adjourned the case until November 15 for a hearing.
The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Ayo Dele of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, New Birth Assembly, located in Dawaki, Abuja, reported the matter at the Dawaki Police Station on August 26.
Mr Ogada explained that the complainant claimed that he found the church was forcibly opened, and a 5.5 KVA generator, a 40-inch LG plasma television and a keyboard were missing.
He also told the court that a mattress and other valuables, whose values had yet to be ascertained, were also stolen.
Mr Ogada said on August 29, the defendant was arrested and brought to the station, and during police interrogation, he confessed that he stole the items from the church.
He said the offence contravened sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
