Court remands man in Kirikiri over attempt to kidnap minor in Lagos

An Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded 25-year-old Friday Nwachor in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, A.O Olateru-Olagbegi, who did not take the plea of Mr Nwachor, ordered the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Mrs Olateru-Olagbegi adjourned the case until February 23, for the DPP’s advice.
Mr Nwachor is facing a four-count charge bordering on attempt to steal a child and attempt to escape from police custody.
The prosecutor, Olawunmi Osibanjo, said the defendant committed the offences on November 22, 2022, at Oluwakemi Bus-stop, Isawo, Owutu in Ikorodu.
Mrs Osibanjo said that the defendant kidnapped the child from a tricycle and tried to escape but was caught by passersby.
She said that the defendant was taken to the police station where he attempted to also escape.
He tried to break the cell walls of Owutu Police Station where he was detained,” the prosecutor said.
Mrs Osibanjo said that the offences contravened Sections 406, 277, 271 and 106 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
