Court remands man, 25, for defiling teenager

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the remand of 25-year-old Ishaya Madaki at a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The chief magistrate, E. Kubeinje, who did not take Mr Madaki’s plea, ordered that the case file be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
She held that Mr Madaki should be kept at the Kirikiri custodial facility pending the DPP’s advice.
Ms Kubeinje adjourned the case until April 18 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Mr Madaki committed the offence between September and October 2020 at a post-service housing estate in Iyana Iba, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant had forcefully had sexual intercourse with the girl.
“The girl who lives around the defendant’s neighbourhood was cornered and deceived by him on her way back from school.
“Madaki deceived the girl when he told her that someone they both know had a package, and she should come to get it in his room,” the prosecutor said.
He said the alleged offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section states that any person who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and liable to imprisonment for life.
