Court remands fisherman, 25, for allegedly defrauding customer of N60,000

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old fishman, Awhansu Simeon, facing trial over alleged N60,000 fraud.
The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, ordered the remand of Simeon in the Badagry custodial centre after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretences.
Mr Layeni subsequently adjourned the case until August 28 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large on June 21 at Akoro Village, Seme Border, Badagry.
Mr Ekpo said that the defendant collected N60,000 from the complainant, Akpoke Evoh, on the pretext of providing him fish, but failed to do so.
He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
Mr Ekpo said that efforts made by the complainant to get back his money proved abortive.
He said that the offences contravened Section 411 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
