Court dissolves 10-year marriage over misbehaviour disrespect

A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja has dissolved a 10-year-old marriage between businessman Mohammed Ibrahim and his wife, Halimat Sadiya, citing lack of respect.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the divorce in accordance with Islamic law, following Ibrahim’s request on the grounds of misbehaviour and disrespect.
Earlier, Ibrahim informed the court that he married Sadiya under Islamic law in 2015, and the union produced four children.
He stated that Sadiya had been disrespecting him and his family for several years despite multiple interventions from family and friends, but she refused to change.
He said, “We fight each other every day; I can no longer bear with her.”
Ibrahim told the court that he was no longer interested to tolerate her misbehaviour and disrespect. He stated, “I am no longer interested in the marriage because I have lost interest in it.’’
He, however, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds of misbehaviour and disrespect. The respondent did not oppose the application for divorce.
